Although parents receiving a speech therapy service had been given explanations and information on speech and language difficulty, and had received programmes for helping their children, it was felt that the service should be offering more. In particular, parents need to be partners in decision making with regard to their children's treatment. The project involved two schemes whereby parents helped to plan their children's treatment.
