DOI: 10.1177/026565909000600103 First words in normal and Down syndrome children: a comparison of content and word-form categoriesStrathclyde University Data are reported for content and word-form categories in the first 50 words produced by four Down syndrome children. These data are compared with that available from studies of normal children. From the broad similarities observed it is argued that such data from normal children can reasonably be used to establish a remedial lexicon for mentally handicapped children.
