Most approaches to date have used observational methods, often guided by checklists of relevant pragmatic skills. A desirable extension of these methods is the standar dized test. This paper examines and evaluates a recently published standardized test, Shulman's Test of Pragmatic Skills. It is suggested that the test could form a useful part of an assessment battery, to be used in conjunction with other methods for assessing pragmatic skills.
