Department of Speech, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK Case studies of spoken word comprehension of three boys with specific language impairment are presented. The children were assessed with standardized assessments and experimental tasks that examined their language processing skills. The three children performed similarly on standardized assessments. However, the experimental tasks identified different underlying processes responsible for each childs language profile. The implications for assessment and intervention are discussed.
